Our champion will be starting in the third round of the French National 1 Slalom Cup.
The competition will take place at the white-water stadium in Pau, France on the 9th and 10th of April.
In terms of training, Martin Thomas underwent a complete change of approach:
“I needed to refocus my entire performance structure. I modified my equipment: the shape of my boat and the size of my paddle are no longer the same.
All these modifications require a time of adaptation as well as a great deal of self-sacrifice, because you have the impression of slipping into a state of regression. I only started to regain a feeling of confidence in my performance a few days ago. This is an indication I am on the right track and making a lot of progress. One must also recognise that this kind of change is always gambling with the future, hence, it is better to make such modifications at the beginning of an Olympiad. I am well aware that the other French competitors, who were not at the Tokyo Olympics, have had more time to adapt to these new techniques. Everyone’s motivation is expected to be at its highest level for this upcoming competition, making every detail count.
Leading up to this event, I will be working hard to make further progress!”
